Cross Country

The NJCAA is the national governing body of two-year collegiate athletics and continues to be the leader in championing academic and athletic opportunities for student-athletes. The Organization is the second-largest national intercollegiate athletic organization in the United States (second to the NCAA) with over 500 member schools in 44 states.  Each year, nearly 60,000 student-athletes compete in championship events and sanctioned football bowl games.

Keanu Daos, also known as Coach K, is a native of the Tri-Cities. He was prepped at Southridge High School, where he ran for Andrew Gonzales. Andrew is a WSU Alumni (All American on the Collegiate and high school level. He is also a part of the Athlete’s Hall of Fame for Southridge.

Keanu was the first athlete in 13 years to break a drought of not having an athlete compete at state for XC. He did this two years in a row and led the team to be ranked the highest in 13 years. He also gained experience outside the high school season competing in the USATF Junior Olympics with Tri-City Thunder, a dominant Track and Field program in the PNW. Jamie Cotton, a WSU alumni with ten years of distance coaching experience, coached Keanu. From age 13-18, under coach Cotton, Keanu became a 3-time All-American in steeplechase and two times for cross country, traveling to nationals in Florida, Alabama, and New Mexico to compete.

Keanu continued his running career at Spokane Falls, where he ran under Sean Mclachlan and James Berry, both veteran coaches. Sean McLachlan is in his 17th year of coaching at CCS. In those 17 years, the men’s team has won 11 team titles. McLachlan has coached 52 men to All-American status and six athletes to individual titles. Keanu is one of those athletes breaking under 25 mins for 8k, NWAC All-American 2 times for cross country, two times for track and field, and one NWAC steeplechase champion.

Keanu Daos continued his running career at Western Oregon University under coaches Zack Halloway and Octavious Gillespie-Bennett. Under the WOU program, he achieved the top 10 all-time for 5000M indoor and outdoor, 3000m indoor, 10,000m outdoor, and 8,000 m cross country. On top of that, he was also 2x All-Region Academic for cross country.

With this opportunity as Head Coach, I want to elevate athletes from all walks of life and equip them with the necessary tools, knowledge, opportunity, and experience to help get them where they want to be.”
